Watashi wo Shiranai France ni Ai ni Iku

Watashi wo Shiranai France ni Ai ni Iku, which translates to 'Going to Meet the France I Don't Know,' is a short ONA (Original Net Animation) produced by Studio Onakama. Released as a promotional piece, the project was designed to showcase the beauty and cultural allure of France to a Japanese audience through a blend of travelogue-style narrative and stylized animation. The work emerged during a period when Japanese tourism boards and international organizations were increasingly leveraging the visual storytelling strengths of anime studios to boost interest in foreign travel.

The production leans into a whimsical, soft aesthetic typical of contemporary independent animation houses aiming for an evocative, rather than strictly literal, travel experience. By focusing on the emotional resonance of exploration, the studio sought to capture the feeling of discovery inherent in a first-time international journey. While primarily intended as a niche promotional effort, the piece was received with mild interest by animation enthusiasts for its polished character designs and the evocative use of color palettes meant to represent the distinct French landscapes presented throughout the short.
