We Never Learn: BOKUBEN, titled Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai in Japanese, began as a manga series by Taishi Tsutsui serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump starting in 2017. The 2019 television anime adaptation, produced by Studio Silver and Arvo Animation, was developed to capture the lighthearted rom-com aesthetic of the source material. It follows a high school student tasked with tutoring academic prodigies who struggle in their respective fields of interest, centering on themes of academic pressure and personal growth.

The character design and visual direction were focused on maintaining the expressive, approachable style characteristic of Tsutsui’s original illustrations. The animation team aimed to balance the comedic, high-energy sequences with the more earnest, character-driven moments that define the series' multi-route narrative structure. Upon release, the series was received as a standard but polished entry in the harem comedy genre, drawing viewers through its vibrant character dynamics and the distinct personalities of the core cast.
