Where it came from
We Never Learn!: BOKUBEN, written and illustrated by Taishi Tsutsui, originated as a serialized manga in Weekly Shonen Jump before being adapted into this anime production. Released in 2019, the second season was produced by Studio Silver and Arvo Animation to continue the narrative of Nariyuki Yuiga, a student tasked with tutoring academic geniuses who struggle in their respective fields of interest. The series fits firmly within the harem comedy tradition, focusing on the development of these characters as they attempt to balance their academic pursuits with personal growth and romantic tension.
The animation design for the second season sought to maintain the clean, expressive aesthetic established in the first, balancing the comedic high-energy sequences with more grounded character moments. Led by director Yoshiaki Iwasaki, the production team aimed to capture the specific charm of the source material's character-driven narrative. The season received particular attention for its unique conclusion, which diverged from the manga's progression to offer a self-contained finish that resonated with fans of the genre's typical lighthearted, ensemble-focused storytelling.
