Wind of Ebenbourg

The Wind of Ebenbourg was released as an original video animation (OVA) in 2003 by the studio NuTech Digital. Emerging during a period when independent digital animation studios were experimenting with darker, atmospheric narratives, the project sought to explore themes of isolation and shifting landscapes within a localized, fictional European setting. It reflects the studio's broader commitment to blending traditional 2D character silhouettes with early digital environmental modeling, a stylistic choice intended to give the short film a distinct, painterly aesthetic.

Designed primarily to demonstrate NuTech Digital’s technical capabilities, the production was helmed by a small creative team tasked with prioritizing mood and pacing over complex narrative exposition. Upon its release, the work was noted in niche animation circles for its ambitious lighting design and somber score, though it remained largely under the radar of mainstream audiences. Critics of the era generally praised its visual ambition while noting that its abstract storytelling structure made it a polarizing entry in the studio's limited portfolio.
