Where it came from
Windy was introduced in 1983 as part of the initial wave of the My Little Pony line by Hasbro. Developed by Bonnie Zacherle, the toy was designed to capture the growing trend of equine-themed play sets for young children, following the success of the earlier 'My Pretty Pony' concept. The line aimed to encourage imaginative play by combining distinct color palettes, cutie marks, and individual character backstories that were further developed through animated television specials and advertisements.
As one of the Pegasus ponies, Windy featured a distinct light blue body with a white mane and tail, distinguished by her symbol of three stylized white clouds. The design focused on a cohesive aesthetic that allowed for easy character recognition within the larger collection. Upon release, the series became a commercial phenomenon, setting the standard for character-driven collectible toys in the 1980s and establishing the long-term cultural legacy of the My Little Pony franchise.
