Where it came from
The Wishing Umbrella was produced by bees inc. as part of their mid-period whimsical collection, reflecting the studio's focus on blending functional stationery with evocative, narrative-driven design. It was created to serve as a physical totem of optimism, intended to bridge the gap between practical utility and the aesthetic of childhood wonder that defined the studio's brand identity during its most prolific years.
The design process was led by the studio's core creative team, who sought to minimize visual clutter by prioritizing a clean, minimalist silhouette highlighted by subtle, thematic detailing on the handle. Upon its release, the piece was well-received by design critics who praised its lightweight structural integrity and the intentional simplicity of its canopy, which allowed the quality of the materials to take center stage.
