Where it came from
Witch Watch is a 2025 television anime adaptation based on the popular manga series written and illustrated by Kenta Shinohara. Produced by Bibury Animation Studios, the series follows the story of a young witch named Nico and her ogre protector, Moi, as they navigate high school life while balancing magical responsibilities and comedic misadventures. The production aims to capture the unique blend of supernatural fantasy and slapstick humor that defined the original manga's long-running serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump.
The character designs were crafted to emphasize expressive, lively animation, reflecting Shinohara's signature style which balances detailed action sequences with humorous character moments. By bringing the vibrant, multi-genre narrative to the screen, the studio sought to appeal to a broad audience, blending heart-felt character growth with the unpredictable magical chaos inherent in the source material. Upon its debut, the series was noted for its faithful translation of the manga's visual gags and the dynamic chemistry between its lead characters.
