Where it came from
Witch on the Holy Night, or Mahoutsukai no Yoru, is a film adaptation of the visual novel originally released by Type-Moon in 2012. Developed by the studio ufotable, this cinematic project continues the studio's long-standing collaboration with Type-Moon, aiming to translate the intricate urban fantasy narrative and character-driven drama of the original source material into a feature-length format for a 2026 release.
The visual design draws heavily from the original aesthetic established by Hirokazu Koyama, whose character illustrations are renowned for their elegant, atmospheric quality. The production team focused on capturing the late 1980s setting of the story, emphasizing a blend of nostalgic charm and high-fidelity animation that ufotable has become synonymous with, ultimately intending to reach both long-time fans of the Nasuverse and those new to the series' cinematic storytelling.
