Where it came from
Wo Shi Jiang Xiaobai: Shijie Shang de Lingyi Ge Wo, titled in English as I Am Jiang Xiaobai: The Other Me in the World, was produced by the Chinese animation studio 2:10 Animation and released as an ONA (Original Net Animation) series. It serves as the second season to the original 2017 series, continuing the story of a young writer who suffers from memory loss and grapples with his past through his creative work. The series is notable for its deliberate, atmospheric focus on youth, memory, and the emotional resonance of music, reflecting the studio's desire to capture a more grounded, character-driven narrative within the contemporary Chinese animation landscape.
The visual design of the series maintains the studio's signature style, characterized by a soft, warm color palette and expressive character modeling intended to emphasize the nostalgic and melancholic tone of the story. Developed during a period of growth for the Chinese animation industry, the production was crafted to reach a demographic interested in slice-of-life dramas rather than traditional action-heavy genres. Upon its release, it was received as a contemplative addition to the medium, praised for its attempt to explore complex interpersonal relationships and the psychological weight of forgotten experiences.
