Where it came from
World Witches Take Off! was produced by studio Acca effe and released in 2021 as a comedic spin-off within the long-running Strike Witches franchise. Building upon the established lore of young women fighting the Neuroi in an alternate version of World War II, the series shifts focus from high-stakes military action to the daily lives and quirky domestic interactions of the pilots during their downtime.
The series draws heavily on character designs and archetypes developed over the franchise's decade-long history, emphasizing a lighter, slapstick tone compared to the main entries. By utilizing a simplified animation style characteristic of the gag-manga adaptation format, the studio aimed to highlight the camaraderie and humor between the various squads, receiving a warm reception from fans who appreciated the playful departure from the series' traditionally serious combat narrative.
