Where it came from
Worku: Dai 1-wa FROM BEHIND was released in 2005 as an original net animation, representing a niche experimental project from the Japanese studio The Village of Marchen. The work emerged during a transitional period for independent digital animation in Japan, where small studios experimented with direct-to-web distribution models to bypass traditional television broadcasting constraints and reach international online audiences.
The production is recognized primarily for its idiosyncratic visual style and avant-garde aesthetic, which stood in stark contrast to the dominant high-budget animation trends of the mid-2000s. While it remains a largely obscure title within the broader landscape of Japanese animation, it serves as a historical document of the early web-based distribution era and the creative autonomy enjoyed by boutique studios of that time.
