Where it came from
World's End Harem was adapted for television in 2022 by studio AXsiZ in collaboration with Studio Gokumi. The series is based on the manga written by Link and illustrated by Kotaro Shono, which first began serialization in 2016. The narrative premise centers on a near-future setting where a pandemic wipes out nearly all of the male population, leaving a small group of survivors to repopulate the earth, a concept that explores science fiction tropes through a highly focused lens.
The production of the anime drew significant attention for its stylistic approach to character design, aiming to replicate the detailed aesthetic of Shono's original artwork. Upon its release, the series became a notable example of its genre, often discussed for the contrast between its clinical, high-stakes premise and its focus on intimate dynamics. While the series sparked debate regarding its thematic content and tone, it remains a recognized title within the specific subgenre of fan-service-heavy science fiction anime.
