Where it came from
Xiong Chumo, also known as 'Boonie Cubs,' emerged from the expansive Fantawild Animation studio as a prequel series to the globally recognized Boonie Bears franchise. Created to capitalize on the success of the original series, it was designed to shift the focus toward the childhood experiences of the central bear duo, Briar and Bramble, while introducing younger audiences to the core themes of forest preservation and lighthearted adventure.
The character design maintains the signature aesthetic established by the Fantawild creative team, emphasizing soft, approachable forms and expressive animation suited for a preschool demographic. Upon its release, the series was received as a stable pillar of the studio's portfolio, effectively expanding the franchise's transmedia reach and cementing the bears as iconic figures in contemporary Chinese children's television.
