Where it came from
Xiongmao He Xiao Yanshu, known in English as Panda and Little Mole, is a 2000s-era animated series produced by CCTV Animation. It was developed during a period of significant growth for Chinese television animation, reflecting a national effort to create domestic content that combined educational themes with engaging storytelling for younger audiences. The series follows the adventures of a panda and a mole, utilizing a gentle, fable-like narrative structure characteristic of the studio’s style at the time.
The character designs draw upon traditional Chinese artistic aesthetics blended with the cleaner, simplified lines required for television production. While CCTV Animation maintains a large catalog of experimental and traditional works, this series was designed to be accessible to a wide demographic, focusing on themes of friendship and environmental awareness. It remains a notable example of the studio's contribution to the early 21st-century landscape of children's programming in China.
