Ya She

Ya She, also known as Aesthetics, is a series of animated short films produced by the Chinese studio Colored Pencil Animation. Released as an ONA (Original Net Animation) in the early 2020s, the series was designed to showcase traditional Chinese cultural elements—such as calligraphy, dance, and music—blended with modern 3D rendering techniques. The project emerged from a growing industry trend in China to elevate domestic animation through high-fidelity visual storytelling that emphasizes atmospheric beauty over traditional narrative structures.

The studio's creative direction for this series focused on meticulous attention to lighting, texture, and fluid character movement, aiming to create a contemplative viewing experience. The design approach relies on a minimalist aesthetic that bridges the gap between historical heritage and digital art. Upon its release, the project was noted by animation enthusiasts for its polished technical execution and its role in demonstrating the studio's increasing capacity for high-end aesthetic production within the competitive Chinese streaming landscape.
