Yaruki Manman

Yaruki Manman was released as an original video animation (OVA) in 1989, produced by Toei Animation. It is based on the long-running manga series by Monta Shibasaki, which originally began serializing in Weekly Manga Action in 1978. The work belongs to the genre of salaryman-focused manga that gained significant traction in the late 1970s and 1980s, depicting the life, workplace dynamics, and sexual exploits of the protagonist, Toru Yamada, in a way that reflected the societal attitudes of Japan's bubble economy era.

The animation design was handled by Toei's team, aiming to translate Shibasaki’s distinctively rugged and caricature-heavy illustration style into a motion format. As an OVA, the production allowed for content that was more explicit and character-driven than typical television broadcasts of the time. Upon its release, the project was received as a direct extension of the popular source material, appealing primarily to an adult demographic already familiar with the protagonist’s irreverent and often abrasive personality.
