Yasai no Yousei: N.Y.SALAD

Yasai no Yousei: N.Y. Salad was produced in 2007 as a unique animated series based on the picture books by Yoshitaka Amano. The series depicts the secret lives of vegetables in a New York City kitchen at night, blending a whimsical, quiet atmosphere with Amano's distinctively ethereal art style. It was notable for its experimental approach, featuring minimal dialogue and focusing on visual storytelling to capture the personalities of the garden-fresh characters.

The project stands out in Amano's extensive career, as it transitioned his iconic illustrative style into a three-dimensional format using cel-shaded CGI. This shift was intended to maintain the painterly quality of his original watercolor illustrations while allowing the characters to interact within a dynamic, nocturnal urban setting. Upon its release, the series was received as a contemplative, artistic departure from the fast-paced animation typical of the era, garnering appreciation for its soft aesthetic and calm narrative tone.
