Where it came from
Yasashii March, or The Tender March, was produced in 2012 by Geidai Animation, the specialized animation program at Tokyo University of the Arts. It emerged from a creative environment that encourages students to experiment with traditional cel-style aesthetics and emotive storytelling, often blending technical precision with a soft, minimalist visual language.
The film is reflective of the university's focus on nurturing auteur-driven works, prioritizing gentle, atmospheric narratives over the high-octane action common in commercial anime. It was crafted as a collaborative exercise in rhythmic movement and character sensitivity, receiving quiet critical appreciation within Japanese independent animation circles for its delicate handling of pace and its evocative, melancholic visual design.
