Yasashii Kaze

Yasashii Kaze, which translates to Gentle Wind, is a musical composition associated with the broadcasting heritage of NHK, Japan's national public broadcaster. It was produced as part of the network's long-standing initiative to provide high-quality, ambient background music for its television and radio programming, particularly for documentary segments and morning lifestyle broadcasts that aim to convey a sense of calm and accessibility to a wide audience.

The piece reflects the mid-to-late 20th-century approach of Japanese public media, which prioritized refined, understated arrangements meant to function unobtrusively in a domestic setting. Its design embodies the aesthetic of Japanese broadcasting during this era: melodic, balanced, and composed with a focus on listener comfort. It has been well-regarded by audiences for its ability to evoke nostalgia and is often cited by fans of Japanese television history as a quintessential example of NHK's distinctive sonic identity.
