Yewai De Zaoyu

Yewai De Zaoyu, also known as 'Encounter in the Wild', was produced by the Shanghai Animation Film Studio during a prolific period for Chinese cel animation. Released in the 1980s, the film emerged from a studio tradition that sought to balance educational themes with the distinct aesthetic of Chinese ink-wash painting and folklore-inspired character designs, aiming to reach a younger audience through short, narrative-driven storytelling.

The film is notable for its commitment to the signature 'national style' promoted by directors and artists at the Shanghai studio, who often drew inspiration from traditional artistic techniques to differentiate their work from Western or Soviet animation models. While the film was well-regarded within China for its technical craftsmanship and charm, it remains a smaller, specific entry within the studio's extensive archive, valued today primarily by scholars and enthusiasts of 20th-century Asian animation history.
