In a strange jar in a shape of a face was the entrace to the magic world. Inside the jar is a large desert and the vast world of magic where Akubi-chan lives. When someone yawns near that jar, Akubi-chan is called and out she pops! Akubi-chan calls the one who yawned, her master and she has to grant that person a wish. This was a rule in the magic world. Once her master yawns for the second time, the magic is gone and Akubi-chan returns into the jar again.
Due to a coincidence, a shy girl named Koron gets hold of the jar and she just happened to yawn right before the jar and Akubi-chan popped out! The moment she came out, the two became good friends and Akubi-chan tries to grant Koron's wish. But all she does was mess up. Since then, their magical ups and downs continue.

Where it came from
Yobarete Tobidete Akubi-chan was produced by Tatsunoko Production and aired in 2001 as a spin-off of the classic 1969 anime series Hakushon Daimaō. The series centers on Akubi, the daughter of the original genie, who travels to the human world to experience life and perform magic. Created to revitalize a beloved intellectual property for a new generation, the show maintains the whimsical and comedic spirit of the original while introducing a more contemporary aesthetic appropriate for early 2000s daytime television.
The character design reflects the transition of Tatsunoko's house style into the digital animation era, emphasizing bright colors and expressive, rounded features intended to appeal to a younger demographic. While the original series was defined by the slapstick misfortune of the genie, this iteration shifted the focus to Akubi's school-aged perspective. It was received as a lighthearted expansion of the franchise, successfully bridging the gap between nostalgic fans of the original show and a new audience of children.
