The story begins when Kazuto's childhood friend and model Yayoi asks to stay at his apartment without any explanation. Kazuto often sees Yayoi go out with a guy after leaving his apartment, and idly wonders why she won't stay at his place. One night, Yayoi asks Kazuto to not come home until morning after the graveyard shift at his part time job ends, since Yayoi is inviting a friend over. Kazuto guesses that she is bringing home a man to have sex with. When his suspicions prove true, a new relationship between them begins.

Where it came from
Yoasobi Gurashi! was produced in 2024 by Studio Houkiboshi as an original net animation, serving as an extension of the broader multimedia landscape associated with the Japanese music duo Yoasobi. The project was designed to visually interpret the narrative themes found within the duo's discography, utilizing a distinct aesthetic that aligns with the atmospheric and introspective storytelling that has defined their musical career since their debut.
The production reflects a contemporary approach to promotional animation, where studios are tasked with synthesizing lyrical concepts into cohesive visual experiences. Studio Houkiboshi focused on a soft, character-driven animation style intended to evoke a sense of everyday nostalgia and emotional resonance. Upon its release, the project was received primarily by the existing fan base as a complementary piece of media that bridges the gap between the audio tracks and their underlying lore.
