Where it came from
Yongheng Jian Zu, known internationally as The Eternal Sword God, is a Chinese web animation series produced by Tencent Penguin Pictures and animated by Motion Magic. Launched in the early 2020s, it belongs to the popular 3D xianxia genre, a form of fantasy storytelling rooted in Chinese mythology and cultivation tropes where practitioners strive for immortality through martial arts and spiritual discipline.
The series follows the protagonist Li Xianyu as he navigates a world filled with supernatural conflict and intricate clan hierarchies. Its design aesthetic relies on high-fidelity 3D character modeling and fluid, kinetic action sequences intended to translate the vast scales of cultivation fiction to the screen. The production reflects the ongoing rise of high-budget Chinese original net animation (ONA) series, which have gained significant international viewership through streaming platforms by focusing on polished visual effects and serialized, fast-paced fantasy narratives.
