You're Under Arrest! (TV)

You're Under Arrest! was produced by Studio Deen and distributed by Bandai Visual, premiering in 1996 as a television adaptation of Kosuke Fujishima’s popular manga series. The anime sought to translate the manga's lighthearted focus on the daily lives of two Tokyo police officers, Natsumi Tsujimoto and Miyuki Kobayakawa, into a procedural format. By blending police-themed action with a character-driven slice-of-life tone, the production team aimed to emphasize the camaraderie and technical detail of the characters' work at the Bokuto Police Station.

The design of the series is noted for its grounded aesthetic, which prioritizes mechanical realism—particularly regarding the characters' vehicles and equipment—against the backdrop of contemporary urban Japan. Directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi, the series was well-received for its balanced pacing and the distinct personalities of its leads, which helped solidify its place in the 1990s anime landscape. Its success established a long-running franchise that would eventually include multiple seasons, original video animations, and a feature film.
