Yozakura Quartet: Hoshi no Umi

Yozakura Quartet: Hoshi no Umi was released in 2010 as a three-episode original video animation series, serving as a reimagining of the manga series created by Suzuhito Yasuda. Produced by Tatsunoko Production, these OVAs moved away from the tone of the 2008 television adaptation to provide a more faithful interpretation of the source material's supernatural action and character dynamics. The production was intended to showcase a higher visual fidelity, benefiting from a refined staff and a clearer focus on the unique aesthetic of Yasuda's original illustrations.

The project was noted for its distinct departure from the studio's previous television work, emphasizing a stylized approach to the series' fantasy urban setting of Sakurashin. Yasuda, known for his character designs in various light novels and video games, provided the blueprint for the character models, which were translated into animation with a focus on fluid combat sequences and expressive, vibrant detail. The OVAs were well-regarded by fans of the manga for capturing the spirit and intricate world-building that the shorter television run had struggled to fully articulate.
