Where it came from
Yuru Yuri, released in 2019 as a tenth-anniversary special, was produced by Studio Lay-duce rather than the series' original animation studios, Doga Kobo or TYO Animations. Created to commemorate a decade since the debut of Namori's beloved manga, the OVA, titled 'Yuru Yuri,' served as a celebratory project funded through a successful crowdfunding campaign. The shift in animation studio brought a distinct visual evolution to the series, focusing on a polished aesthetic that stayed true to the slice-of-life humor and character dynamics that had defined the franchise for ten years.
The project was designed to honor the legacy of the Amusement Club while introducing new creative energy under the direction of Daigo Yamagishi. By returning to the familiar, lighthearted roots of the source material, the production aimed to satisfy the long-standing fan base that had supported the series since its 2011 television debut. Upon its release, it was well-received by devotees who appreciated the nostalgic tribute to the central quartet and the effort to maintain the series' signature comedic timing in a fresh, anniversary-themed package.
