Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru: Washio Sumi no Shou 2 - Tamashii

Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru: Washio Sumi no Shou 2 - Tamashii is the second installment in a three-part theatrical film series that serves as a prequel to the first season of the Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru anime franchise. Produced by Studio Gokumi and directed by Seiji Kishi and Daisei Fukuoka, these films were released in 2017 to expand upon the backstory of the series' heroines. The narrative adapts the light novel series written by Takahiro, focusing on the formation of the Hero Club and the emotional toll of their initial battles against the Vertex, effectively setting the tragic emotional stakes for the broader franchise.

The character designs for the film were adapted for animation by Takahiro Sakai, based on the original concepts by illustrator BUNBUN. The production aimed to balance the aesthetic of a classic magical girl transformation series with the darker, more visceral psychological themes that characterize the franchise. Upon its release, the film was well-regarded by the existing fan base for its polished animation quality and for providing necessary context to the sacrifices depicted in the later timeline, solidifying its place as a pivotal entry in the series' lore.
