Yuuri!!! on ICE The Movie: ICE ADOLESCENCE

Yuuri!!! on ICE The Movie: ICE ADOLESCENCE was announced by MAPPA in 2017 as a cinematic extension of the acclaimed 2016 figure skating anime series. Directed by Sayo Yamamoto and written by Mitsurou Kubo, the project was intended to serve as a prequel exploring the early career of the protagonist, Yuuri Katsuki. The production team aimed to maintain the high standard of animation quality seen in the series, particularly regarding the fluid movement and technical accuracy of the on-ice skating sequences.

The project encountered significant developmental hurdles, ultimately leading to its indefinite postponement in 2024. Despite the high anticipation among fans and the critical success of the original series, the studio cited various production and corporate challenges that prevented the film from reaching completion. Consequently, the work remains an unreleased piece of animation history, symbolizing both the creative ambitions of its creators and the complexities inherent in modern anime production.
