Where it came from
Zo Zo Zo Zombie-kun, known in Japan as Zo Zo Zo Zombie-kun, was released in 2017 as a series of short-form original net animation episodes. Adapted from the children's manga series by Yasunari Nagatoshi, the project was produced by studio SynergySP. The narrative centers on a young boy named Zombie-kun who, despite having died, continues to attend school and navigate daily life while contending with his body parts frequently falling off, a trope played for slapstick comedy rather than horror.
The animation style mirrors the manga's expressive, exaggerated character designs, focusing on high-energy humor suitable for a younger demographic. The series received a modest following upon its online release for its absurdist tone and creative use of body-horror elements within a lighthearted, gag-oriented framework. It remains a notable example of Japanese short-form animation that successfully transitioned from print to digital media.
