A gag comedy aimed at young children featuring Zombie-kun, a child zombie, and his interactions with the world. It's not intended to be scary in the slightest, but rather, it focuses on the comical and bizarre things Zombie-kun's body can do, and the common-sense-defying way Zombie-kun behaves. For example, he'll take out his stomach and inflate it with air to use as a pillow, or if he gets wet, he'll detach parts of his body and wring them out like towels, then reattach them with a glue stick. Everything is depicted in a cute, cartoony fashion so as not to be too graphic for kids.
Note: The show streamed first on web platforms. Regular TV broadcast began on April 16, 2020.

Where it came from
Zo Zo Zombie originated as a children's manga series by Yasunari Nagatoshi, serialized in CoroCoro Comic starting in 2012. The narrative centers on a young zombie boy named Zombie-kun who navigates mundane life with his human friend Isamu despite his body parts frequently falling off. The ONA adaptation was produced in 2020 as a fast-paced, slapstick web series intended to capture the absurdist humor of the source material for a digital-first audience.
The character design maintains a deliberate contrast between the macabre premise and a simplified, highly expressive aesthetic suited for short-form animation. By focusing on exaggerated physical comedy and a lighthearted tone, the studio sought to make the horror elements palatable and engaging for a younger demographic. The series is widely recognized within the context of contemporary Japanese children's animation for its focus on visual gags that transcend traditional language barriers.
