Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle

The Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle, or Geranoaetus melanoleucus, is a large bird of prey native to the open mountains and foothills of South America. It is a member of the Accipitridae family, evolutionarily distinct from the true eagles of the Northern Hemisphere. Historically, it has been a prominent feature of Andean iconography, appearing in various pre-Columbian artifacts where its robust silhouette, defined by its broad wings and short, rounded tail, was often interpreted as a symbol of power and connection to the sky.
