Blue-headed Macaw

The Blue-headed Macaw, Primolius couloni, is a rare psittacine native to the humid forests of the western Amazon basin, specifically spanning parts of Peru, Brazil, and Bolivia. It was formally described in 1855 by the French naturalist Philip Sclater. The species is characterized by its distinctive blue head, which contrasts with its primarily green plumage, and its specialized morphology, including a broad wing shape adapted for maneuvering through dense canopy foliage and a long, pointed tail typical of the genus.

Conservationists and biologists have long monitored this species due to its fragmented habitat and elusive behavior. Unlike more common macaws, the Blue-headed Macaw is seldom seen in large flocks, often appearing in pairs or small family groups.
