Rüppell's Parrot

Rüppell's parrot, scientifically classified as Poicephalus rueppellii, was formally described by the German naturalist Eduard Rüppell in the mid-19th century following his extensive expeditions to Northeast Africa. Indigenous to the arid woodlands and savanna regions of Namibia and southwestern Angola, the species evolved with broad wings and a rounded tail, physical adaptations that facilitate efficient flight across the challenging, sparsely vegetated terrain of its natural habitat.

The species is distinguished by marked sexual dimorphism, a trait that caught the interest of 19th-century ornithologists and taxonomic collectors. While female specimens are often noted for their distinct yellow wing patches and underparts, males exhibit a more muted coloration.
