Blyth's Paradise-Flycatcher

Blyth's Paradise-Flycatcher (Terpsiphone affinis) was formally recognized and named in honor of the English zoologist Edward Blyth, who served as the curator of the Museum of the Asiatic Society of Bengal. The species is part of the broader monarch flycatcher family, evolutionarily adapted for life in the dense, shaded understories of Southeast Asian forests. Its taxonomy has historically been complex, with many ornithologists previously grouping it as a subspecies of the Asian Paradise-Flycatcher until genetic and morphological studies supported its distinction as a separate species.

The bird's design, defined by its rounded wing shape and distinctively elongated tail feathers in breeding males, is an example of sexual selection playing out in a forest environment.
