Buller's Albatross

The Buller's albatross, named after the New Zealand ornithologist Sir Walter Buller, is a medium-sized mollymawk native to the southern Pacific. Historically, these birds were identified and categorized during the height of 19th-century colonial exploration, as naturalists sought to map the avian biodiversity of the subantarctic islands. Their existence came to prominence within the scientific community as researchers documented the unique physiological adaptations of the Thalassarche genus, specifically noting their distinct wing structure and refined flight patterns.

The design of the species—an evolutionary product of the harsh, windswept environments of the Snares and Solander islands—features a highly efficient, soaring wing shape and a characteristic pointed tail.
