Bull-headed Shrike

The Bull-headed Shrike, or Lanius bucephalus, is a passerine bird native to East Asia, primarily inhabiting parts of Japan, Korea, and northeastern China. As a member of the shrike family, it is evolutionarily adapted for a predatory lifestyle despite its small stature, a trait reflected in its distinct biological design. The species serves as a cultural symbol in Japanese literature and art, often noted for its aggressive territorial behavior and its habit of impaling prey on thorns or barbed wire, a strategy that ensures its survival in diverse habitats ranging from open woodlands to urban parks.
