Bumblebee Hummingbird

The Bumblebee Hummingbird, identified scientifically as Selasphorus heloisa, is native to the high-altitude pine-oak forests of Mexico. It was first formally described by naturalists in the 19th century during a period of intense ornithological exploration, when European researchers began documenting the immense biological diversity of the Neotropics. Its name reflects its diminutive stature, as it is among the smallest avian species in the world, often mimicking the flight patterns and size of the large insects from which it takes its common name.
