Buru Honeyeater

The Buru Honeyeater, Lichmera deningeri, is an avian species endemic to Buru, an island in the Maluku province of Indonesia. It was scientifically described in the early 20th century, emerging from the era of intensive biogeographical expeditions that sought to catalogue the unique fauna of the Wallacea region. Its classification reflects the distinct evolutionary history of the island, which served as a natural laboratory for researchers studying island endemism and the divergence of passerine birds in Southeast Asia.
