Cinnamon-headed Green-Pigeon

The Cinnamon-headed Green-Pigeon (Treron fulvicollis) was first formally described by the German naturalist Johann Georg Wagler in 1827. Part of the Columbidae family, this species is native to the Sundaic region of Southeast Asia, thriving in the mangrove forests and coastal scrublands of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Brunei. Its evolutionary trajectory is marked by a specialized diet of fruits, particularly figs, which has influenced its physiological development, including the rounded wings and square tail that facilitate precise maneuverability within dense forest canopies.

The bird's distinctive plumage, particularly the cinnamon-rufous head of the male, serves as the primary inspiration for its common name and identification.
