Dark-backed Wood-Quail

The Dark-backed Wood-quail, identified by its scientific name Odontophorus melanonotus, is a member of the Odontophoridae family found primarily in the humid forests of the Chocó region in northwestern Ecuador and southwestern Colombia. First described by ornithologists in the late 19th century, this species belongs to a genus of New World quail characterized by their shy, terrestrial nature and preference for dense, thick undergrowth, which makes them notoriously difficult to observe in the wild.
