Dark-rumped Rosefinch

The Dark-rumped Rosefinch (Carpodacus edwardsii) was first described by the French naturalist Alphonse Milne-Edwards in 1873. It is native to the high-altitude regions of the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau, evolved to thrive in dense rhododendron and coniferous forests. This species represents the distinct biogeographical history of the Sino-Himalayan subregion, where many species emerged during periods of geological uplift that created unique, isolated ecological niches.

The design of the bird, characterized by its deep, rose-crimson plumage in males and muted, earth-toned brown streaks in females, serves as a classic example of sexual dimorphism within the Fringillidae family.
