Daurian Starling

The Daurian Starling, scientifically classified as Agropsar sturninus, is a migratory passerine bird native to eastern Asia. It was first described by the Russian naturalist Peter Simon Pallas in 1776, following his extensive expeditions through the Russian Empire. The bird occupies a distinct place in the Sturnidae family, characterized by its specialized adaptation to the temperate forests and marshy habitats of Siberia, Mongolia, and northern China, from where it migrates to Southeast Asia during the winter months.

The species is noted for its elegant, streamlined silhouette, defined by its pointed wing shape and slightly notched tail, which facilitate efficient long-distance flight. Ornithologically, it is studied for its unique plumage patterns—often appearing as a subtle blend of gray, black, and iridescent white—and its social nesting behaviors.
