David's Fulvetta

David's Fulvetta, or Alcippe davidi, is a passerine bird belonging to the family Alcippeidae. It was historically considered a subspecies of the Grey-cheeked Fulvetta until molecular phylogenetic studies clarified its status as a distinct species. The bird is named in honor of the French missionary and naturalist Armand David, who was instrumental in documenting the diverse avian life of China for Western science during the late 19th century.

The species is characterized by its distinctively rounded wings and a slightly notched tail, features that assist in its characteristic movement through the dense understory of mountain forests in south-central and southeastern China. Its design, if one considers its evolution, favors maneuverability in thick vegetation rather than long-distance flight. It remains a subject of study for ornithologists interested in the complex taxonomy of the babbler group in East Asian montane ecosystems.
