Eastern Phoebe

The Eastern Phoebe, scientifically classified as Sayornis phoebe, is a passerine bird native to eastern North America. It was first formally described by naturalist John Latham in 1790. The species is characterized by its distinctively plain, grayish-brown plumage, its habit of bobbing its tail while perched, and its characteristic call, which provides its name. Its evolutionary development has favored an insectivorous diet, leading it to favor open woodlands, farmsteads, and areas near water where it can catch prey in mid-air.
