Finch-billed Myna

The Finch-billed Myna, known scientifically as Scissirostrum dubium, is an avian species endemic to the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia. It occupies a unique taxonomic niche as a monotypic genus within the starling family, Sturnidae. It was first described by the ornithologist John Latham in 1827. The species evolved in the lowland forests and forest edges of the region, where its distinct appearance, characterized by a heavy, finch-like bill and vibrant red plumage on the rump and undertail, reflects its adaptation to a diet primarily composed of fruit and the larvae of wood-boring insects.

The evolutionary design of the Finch-billed Myna is particularly noted for its communal nesting behavior, often found in dead trees within open areas.
