Frances's Sparrowhawk

Frances's Sparrowhawk, scientifically classified as Tachyspiza francesiae, is a small bird of prey endemic to the island of Madagascar. First described by the French naturalist Andrew Smith in 1834, the species was named in honor of Frances, the wife of the British officer and explorer Sir Edward Sabine. This naming convention reflects the 19th-century tradition of European naturalists commemorating their associates and family members while conducting scientific expeditions across colonial territories.

The bird is characterized by its specialized morphology, featuring pointed wings and a rounded tail, which allow it to navigate efficiently through the dense forest canopy of its habitat.
