Gray-headed Chachalaca

The Gray-headed Chachalaca, Ortalis cinereiceps, is a galliform bird native to the humid forests and scrublands of Central and South America, ranging from Honduras to northwestern Colombia. As a member of the Cracidae family, it evolved alongside other arboreal game birds, occupying a distinct ecological niche characterized by dense foliage where its rounded wings and tail facilitate short, burst-like flights through complex forest architecture rather than sustained migratory travel.
