Gray-hooded Heleia

The Gray-hooded Heleia, scientifically classified as Heleia pinaiae, is an elusive passerine bird endemic to the mountainous regions of Seram, an island in the Maluku province of Indonesia. It occupies a distinct place within the Zosteropidae family, which is widely recognized for the evolution of diverse morphological traits suited to isolated island habitats. The species was historically categorized under the genus Madanga, but recent taxonomic shifts have relocated it to Heleia, reflecting ongoing ornithological efforts to clarify its evolutionary relationships and unique physical adaptations.
