Handsome Spurfowl

The Handsome Spurfowl, Pternistis nobilis, is a species of bird in the Phasianidae family native to the montane forests of the Albertine Rift in Central Africa. First described by the German ornithologist Anton Reichenow in 1908, the species was historically documented by naturalists exploring the dense, high-altitude habitats of the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda. Its classification within the Pternistis genus reflects its evolutionary adaptation to secluded forest floors, where its distinct plumage serves as vital camouflage.
