Himalayan White-browed Rosefinch

The Himalayan White-browed Rosefinch was formally described by the ornithologist Frédéric de Lafresnaye in 1846. Named for the distinct white supercilium that arches over the eye of the male, this species is native to the high-altitude shrublands and coniferous forests of the Himalayas, ranging from Afghanistan through northern India and into China. Its evolution in such extreme, mountainous environments has favored the rounded wings and notched tail that characterize its flight pattern, allowing for agile movement between dense alpine flora.

The species is representative of the diverse Carpodacus genus, which has long been a subject of interest for naturalists documenting the biodiversity of the Himalayan region. While not designed by human hands, its aesthetic presence—defined by the vibrant pinkish-red plumage of the males contrasted against the muted, streaked tones of the females—has made it a coveted observation for ornithologists and birdwatchers.
